Rising Tide Ebbing Gaze

Lautaro Reyes

This work arises from a question asked by the artist: how can a set of bodies produce qualities that shift the perception of those who observe a performance – or that of those who produced the performance – towards landscapes that are not present? And the realisation that, as this event unfolds over time, the possibility of continuing to shift this imaginary created by multiple subjectivities continues to produce new dialogues of involvement. Building on this concept of sensory alteration, the artist aims to stimulate or establish an exchange by creating a specific tone in the gaze.

How can we create a performative apparatus and body language that, through its sophistication and hyperactivity, can be a way of diminishing the gaze and the state of those participating in this environment?

Lautaro Reyes (Valparaíso, 1986) is a performance artist who works with movement and choreography. His interests stem from intuitions that he projects as landscapes, and he likes to establish a dialogue within these places through the movement they inspire. He explores the potential languages of the body so that they can express places that remain stationary in the imagination. He considers movement to be a mechanism that provokes binding impulses in both the individuals creating the choreography and those observing the choreographic form, thereby formulating a common understanding based on this communication of subjectivities.
