“Pe(Drag)ology: Travesti Epistemologies” is an artistic exploration that examines the forms of knowledge produced, transmitted and embodied by cross-dressing and drag bodies, as well as other non-conforming subjectivities. Based on performance art, the archives in our bodies, oral tradition and queer pedagogy, the project explores how knowledge is generated outside the institutions authorised to generate it and what technologies enable it to persist and spread. Through exercises of recreation, practices of transformation, situated stories and processes of collective experimentation, interviews and a survey that maps the diversity of the local scene, Pe(drag)ogy suggests thinking about how drag knowledge is shared and emerges as an emotional, social and performance-based practice that makes trans life possible. Rather than defining a stable set of contents, the piece explores the conditions under which certain gestures, memories and forms of existence become present, significant and capable of being passed down, with the goal of rediscovering the transformative potential of drag.
Norma Pérez, also known as Muerte a la Norma, is a transdisciplinary artist whose work explores drag art as a technology for social transformation. Her practice focuses on hacking gender through performance art, archives and queer pedagogy. She is a member of M0nster.L4b, director of Kobra Kuir and resident at La Escocesa, combining art, identity and transfeminist activism.
