“Bright and Spacious” is a cultural archaeology project about housing. Through photographic documentation and essays, this publication examines a key feature of domestic interior design in the second half of the 20th century: the large living/dining room wall unit. Its long-standing presence in modern domestic imagery reflects how our understanding of private spaces has evolved. While it initially became the focal point of the home, and therefore of middle-class national identity, today it is a generational burden, a symbol of decline that is hard to shake off.
Pablo Saulo is an illustrator, designer and educator specialising in visual narrative and self-publishing. He has taken part in festivals such as Grapa y Tinta, Gutter Fest and Graf. He holds an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts and a master’s degree in Illustration and Comics.
Álvaro Giménez is an editor specialising in technical, cultural and academic publishing. He has worked for various publishers and organisations in the education sector. He holds an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts and a master’s degree in Contemporary Art History and Visual Culture.
