“Apprehending in Words” is a dramatised conversation between the research of María García Vera and Itxaso Corral Arrieta. After more than fifteen years of friendship, conversations and shared materials, discoveries and intuitions, the two creators wonder what happens when two parallel explorations decide to come together.
The piece explores the relationship between words and bodies. It starts with a simple question: What can a word still do? At a time when many words seem overused, manipulated or devoid of meaning, the project aims to rescue them, replant them and make them resonate once again. Perhaps words are still seeds. Perhaps they can still help us to imagine other forms of life.
Inspired by the thinking of María Zambrano, astonishment, dispersion and certain forms of lucidity verging on delirium, the creation investigates the word as living matter and views research as a space for exchange and mutual transformation
María García Vera is a performance artist, creator and researcher. Her work lies at the intersection of theatre, choreography, film and the visual arts, and her projects are shaped by her sense of humour and ongoing exploration of the relationships between images and bodies. She holds a degree in Acting from the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona and a bachelor’s degree in Film from the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, a master’s degree in Contemporary Film and Audiovisual Studies and a PhD in Audiovisual Communication from Pompeu Fabra University. She is a member of the performing arts company Los Detectives, whose works have been shown at national and international festivals, theatres, museums and art centres.
Itxaso Corral Arrieta is an artist who moves, creates sound and imagines at the crossroads of performance art, education and arts research.[LE2.1] She practices the performing arts through unexpected space-times and formats, because it reveals how our lives are mutually sustained. She partners with the education departments at institutions such as MACBA, Fundación Joan Brossa, EART, Nau Ivanov, Museo Tàpies and Fundación Miró. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Performing Arts in the Basque Country and earned a diploma in Film and Performance Studies from the University of Kent (England) and the École de Théatre Jacques Lecoq (Paris). She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Stage Practice at the UCLM and Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid) and the Independent Studies Programme (PEI) at Barcelona’s MACBA.
