Between two beginnings

Tània Vendrell Canela

Opening: Tuesday, January 25th at 7 PM

‘Between two beginnings’ offers a self-referential reading of the exhibition format, in which time and space become the central elements of an exploration of transience, rootlessness and forgetting.

Its presentation in La Capella’s Espai Rampa, whose neutral, modern appearance contrasts with the building’s history, reflects an intention to address the neighbourhood’s urban transformations through the space itself. The modernisation of the facilities, architectural rewriting, sanitisation and aestheticisation are interpreted as part of broader processes that resonate with the dynamics of urban regeneration and gentrification that have transformed Ciutat Vella over recent decades.

Similarly, the exhibition’s temporary nature forms part of the same reflection and is presented in relation to artistic and residential nomadism, the instability of artistic practice and precariousness.

The exhibition will consist of a series of site-specific installations by Helena Laguna Bastante, Biel Llinàs, Laia Velasco Flo and Abril Carretero i Balcells.

Tània Vendrell Canela, born in Barcelona in 2001, works in the fields of writing, curatorial practice and support for artistic processes. She is interested in the relationships between the body, memory, geography and situated forms of knowledge production, as well as the possibilities of curating as a practice of listening, outreach and collective work. She holds an undergraduate degree in Humanities from Pompeu Fabra University and a master’s degree in Exhibition Curating and Design from EINA, and has worked in leading art institutions and spaces such as Àngels Barcelona and the Fundació Vila Casas.
