When in 1977 guitarist Yomo Toro failed to show up to record his four-string guitar solo for the song Buscando guayaba, Rubén Blades improvised that historic mouth solo that he would then have to repeat at each of the concerts on the Siembra tour. The ability to improvise and know how to dance four steps when there is an incident is a necessary skill not only to travel through the Caribbean, but also to narrate it.
In this workshop we will navigate the flashes of vertiginous orality, starting from Brathwaite's drum poems and going through the hyperlyrics of salsa and various visual manifestations of eternal reverberation. Through findings from the Hamaca archive, social networks and personal archive, we will generate a kind of rhizomatic and collective syllabus that explores rhythm as a methodology of resistance and contagion.
Who is it for: This workshop is aimed at artists who want to explore the sonority and cadence of Caribbean narrative and its capacity not only to accompany the image but also to evoke and preserve it. Priority will be given to artists from the diaspora and migrants from the global south in general.

Location: La Capella (c/ Hospital, 56; Barcelona)
