On Thursday 7 May, at 6 pm, the Finestres space at La Capella will host an opening session of the research process Al Calor devenimos hembras, a project by Luca Carrubba and María Ignacia Ibarra developed over the past two months as part of the Barcelona CREA 2025 – HacTe grant call: "Knowing-Not-Knowing: Territorios áridos".
In this community return meeting we will present the progress, in notes format, of a creative research process around sea turtles: a non-systematic study in relation to heat. We will listen to recordings, interpret texts, feel and think cartographies, and draw the next steps of this research.
During the research residency, Carrubba and Ibarra explored the effects of the climate crisis and environmental coloniality based on a very specific biopolitical phenomenon: sex determination in the sea turtles that inhabit the coasts near Barcelona. Due to the increase in sea temperature and, especially, in the sand where they nest, loggerhead turtles(caretta caretta) are undergoing an accelerated process of feminization.
