A Pre-emption Quest

Mercedes Pimiento

A Pre-emption Quest is a project made up of a series of sculptures that engage with the space of La Capella, exploring the physical behaviours of materials such as beeswax, paraffin and rosin. Building on investigations from previous projects, this work takes them to a new level. Conceived as a set of slowly moving presences, the installation-proposal intertwines matter, light and temperature in a subtle choreography in which the rhythm of the materials creates a unique, sensitive and ever-changing sense of time.

Mercedes Pimiento (Seville, 1990) is an artist, researcher and teacher. She holds a Fine Arts degree from the Universidad de Sevilla and the Winchester School of Art (United Kingdom), a master’s degree in Production and Artistic Research, and she is currently completing a PhD at the Universitat de Barcelona.

She has exhibited at art centres such as La Casa Encendida, CAAC, C3A, Fabra i Coats and the Arranz-Bravo Foundation and has also received several awards and grants, including the Miquel Casablancas Prize, the Estampa Prize (Community of Madrid – CA2M), the Sorigué – Art Nou Prize, the Generaciones Prize, the Art for Change Prize (”la Caixa”) and the Injuve Prize.
