Alan Sierra, from Fábula encinta series, 2022

Alan Sierra

Vísperas

From 13 December 2022 to 8 January 2023

Based on a series of line drawings, Alan Sierra proposes a story inspired by the myths that support the figure of the creative genius and the origin of masterpieces. Using tools of anatomical illustration, he sets out to fable the author's body to question the patriarchal values that accompany artistic work.

Alan Sierra (Mexico, 1990). He is an artist and collaborates as a writer and curator for different initiatives. His work is made up of stories, drawings, small-format sculptures and live acts that can be read as short texts. Alan Sierra is also interested in tracing genealogies in the artistic canon to recognize the chains of work that sustain works of art in parallel to the figure of the creative genius. His work is linked to professions related to literature -such as publishing, translation and illustration- to create conditions that facilitate a more complex understanding of written culture.

In 2019 Nonverbal was published, his first book of drawings edited by Gato Negro. From 2019 to 2021 he was part of the SOMA Educational Program in Mexico City. He is currently doing Master's studies at the Institut Kunst Gender Natur in Basel, Switzerland. This year his new book Fábula encinta will be published, in which he elaborates on the image of male pregnancy in the rhetoric of the authors who refer to their books as their children and to the creative process as gestation.

This exhibition is proposed by BAR project for La Capella's Concèntric program. BAR project is a curatorial initiative in motion that promotes transdisciplinary dialogue, hospitality, collaboration and exchange. La Capella's Concentric program collaborates with BAR Project by establishing links to give visibility to artists who participate in their residencies.
